TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Office works combined with losing focus could make your day feel endless. Nutritionist and author of The Real Food Grocery Guide Maria Marlowe recommends following foods to help keeping a sharp focus.

1. Blueberry

Blueberry has a lot of benefits, starting from strengthening memory and improving blood circulation. It also reduces nerve center inflammation. Antioxidant and flavonoid contained in the blue fruit are main boosters to maintain a clear head. Maria recommends a glass of blueberry juice a day or to mix it with yoghurt.

2. Walnut

Walnut contains ALA, omega-3 fatty acid, and various antioxidants that can increase focus and mental functions. A study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease found a fact that regular walnut consumption can reduce the risk of having Alzheimer, improve memory and ease anxiety.

3. Green vegetables

Spinach and Kale are examples of superfoods containing vitamin and mineral for a strong focus. A study conducted by the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology found that people who consume a bowl of green vegetables each day for five years have a cognitive ability equal to those who are 11 years younger than they are.

4. Pumpkin seeds

Enriched with magnesium, zinc and other minerals that are good for brain cells, pumpkin seeds will be excellent for those who suffer Alzheimer and other brain degeneration diseases. Maria suggests consuming an ounce of pumpkin seeds per day by adding them into salads or having them as healthy snacks.

5.Matcha

This green beverage has gained popularity over the last few years. Not only it is a trend, it also helps improving focus, thanks to a combination of caffeine and theanine contents. Unlike coffee, Matcha does not cause anxiety. A study conducted by Wageningen University showed that a combination of the two substances improves focus and memory as well as reduces distractions.

6. Water

Dehydration can cause lethargic, headache, and negative effects on brain and body functions. Drinking several glasses of water can help us maintaining focus. It is suggested to drink eight glasses of water per day.
