TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Want to try the sensation of dining in a military-esque surrounding? Go to Dapur Bomb at Jalan Cihampelas in Bandung. The visitors can experience being in a military barrack that is often visualized in war movies.

Once you step foot into this restaurant, you will be welcomed by a tall and sturdy man wearing a full Indonesian National Army themed suit, complete with a bulletproof vest, camouflage pants, military boots, and an army weapons belt. But don not let the looks intimidate you because these “soldiers” are your waiters.

Stepping in a little further, there is a rectangle room complete with wooden rectangular table seating arrangements that can accommodate 40 customers. The menu can be seen beside a world map displayed on one of its walls, while the tissue boxes are replaced with ammo containers.

“This idea sparked from my unrealized ambition to be a soldier. I also love the culinary world, so I applied it to a dining concept,” says Zaky Bangun, the owner and manager of Dapur Bomb.

In order to capture the feel of a military area, Zaky utilized the decommissioned military equipment. The “Kitchen Commander”, a name given to the chef, who cooks the meals behind a glass window that separates the dining room and kitchen. The chef can show their “cooking strategy” through the window.

Anne Rufaidah, one of the customers, said, ”The concept is creative. Although the chef is wearing a complete apparel as if he’s ready to go to war, I don’t feel disturbed. It’s cute.”

The dishes are also uniquely named, such as the Oseng Bomb, Nasi Goreng Bomb (Bomb Fried Rice), Tahu Bomb (Bomb Tofu), Tahu Tower (Tofu Tower), Asam Iga Klandestin, Ayam Tempur Kuning (Yellow Battle Chicken), Bebek Teror (Terror Duck), and Bakmi Ranjau (Mine Noodle). The beverages are also military treated, such as the Avocado Bomb, Fire in The Hole, Lychee Trooper, Alasca Ice Tea, Thai Tea, among other choices available.

Dapur Bomb opens from Sunday to Thursday from 9-10pm Western Indonesian Time (WIB), Friday at 1-11pm and Saturday at 10am-11pm. The price ranges from Rp8,000-Rp30,000.
