TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism Minister Arief Yahya and Miss Tourism Indonesia 2014 Nawang Wulan Hanafi took a black cab with Wonderful Indonesia Logo in London on Monday, November 2, 2015.
The deputy of tourism marketing development at the Tourism Ministry, I Gde Pitana, said that attaching the Wonderful Indonesia logo on London’s iconic taxi was an effort to promote Indonesia in the United Kingdom. Minister Arief made a trip with a black cab from the Excel building where tourism expo called the WTM London was held, passing the Tower of London, the Big Ben and the Buckingham Palace.
The taxi driver admitted that he did not recognize his customer.
“Seems like an important person,” taxi driver Laurence said.
“I’m glad that I had a chance to take the Tourism Minister seeing London,” Laurence added once he knew the customer was a Tourism Minister.
According to Laurence, a company making promotional campaign on the cab can only take pictures at certain spots, such as London Bridge, Buckingham Palace and Bg Ben. But this time, Laurence was asked to take the passenger on a trip across the city.
Taxis with Borobudur, Raja Ampat and Bali images were seen passing the streets. The moment caught attention of people and tourists visiting London.
Miss Tourism Indonesia 2014 Nawang Wulan Hanafi, who took part in promoting Indonesia at the WTM London, said that she was proud of taking London’s iconic cab attached with the Wonderful Indonesia Logo.
“I'm so proud when pedestrians stare at taxis with the Wonderful Indonesia logo,” Nawang said.
